Rapid growth in the capacity of digital agriculture and the potential of Artificial Intelligence and machine learning is transforming the agriculture and agri-food sector.

This is leading to increased innovation and wider integration of technology solutions to drive productivity and sustainability. It is also highlighting the importance of cross-industry collaboration to empower people with digital skills, support scale-ups to grow in the prairies, and accelerate Canada’s growth as a leader in digital agriculture.

The Enterprise Machine Intelligence Learning Initiative (EMILI)’s annual conference Agriculture Enlightened brings together industry leaders, producers, and academics from across (and beyond) Manitoba to explore this year’s theme: Canada’s digital agriculture opportunity.

Unplugged is one of a series of dynamic conference sessions that explore Canada’s digital agriculture opportunity!

The annual conference takes place Thursday, October 20, 2022, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at the Hotel Fairmont in Winnipeg and online.

The conference will kick off with a candid discussion on the history and future of Canadian Agriculture led by Farm Credit Canada’s Chief Economist JP Gervais and Vice President of Digital Agriculture Fred Wall.

“Technology is continuously evolving and reshaping the industry, allowing us to do more, and in a more productive and sustainable way. This provides a huge opportunity for Canada to increase its prominence and grow our position as a global leader in food production,” said EMILI Managing Director Jacqueline Keena.

“Bringing experts together from across the agtech sector equips us to harness these opportunities and we are thankful to have world class thought leaders such as JP Gervais and Fred Wall on our conference roster,” said Keena

Panel discussions throughout the day will give business and academic leaders in the digital agriculture and agri-food industry a chance to discuss a variety of timely topics such as:

  • Attracting and retaining a new generation of skilled workers
  • Innovations in insurance to manage risks
  • Smart Farm innovations across North America
  • Equipping digital agriculture for today’s cybersecurity risks

EMILI is based in Manitoba with projects that span the country. The non-profit organization works with industry and academia to advance the adoption of intelligent technologies and to provide people with the skills and training required to succeed in a digital economy.
