EMILI and CAPI are working together on the Digital Agri-Food Policy Forum Initiative.
Canada’s agriculture and food sector is rapidly embracing digital technologies, from artificial intelligence and precision agriculture to data-driven decision-making. Yet the conversations shaping policy have often remained fragmented, with limited opportunities for leaders across industry, government, research, and technology to work together on shared priorities.
To help address this gap, CAPI and EMILI have launched the Digital Agri-Food Policy Forum, a national initiative designed to bring together diverse voices to identify practical, policy-focused solutions that can accelerate digital agriculture in Canada.
The Forum builds on years of CAPI’s work exploring the opportunities and challenges of digital agriculture. Through its 2025 and 2026 Digital Agri-Food Reports, CAPI identified the need for stronger national dialogue, greater coordination, and clearer policy pathways to support innovation and adoption. The Forum is the next step in turning those insights into action.
Following the Forum’s inaugural meeting, participants identified several priority areas for future work, including technology adoption, data governance, workforce skills, artificial intelligence, and farmer-centred innovation. These discussions have informed the Forum’s first summary document, which captures key themes, emerging policy considerations, and opportunities for collaboration.

This is just the beginning. Over the coming months, the Digital Agri-Food Policy Forum will continue convening leaders from across Canada’s agri-food system to explore emerging issues, develop practical policy recommendations, and produce resources that help advance a more connected, innovative, and competitive digital agriculture sector.
