Digital technologies promise to improve productivity, reduce costs and the environmental footprint of food production. To capitalize on this opportunity we must engage with important questions raised by the increasing use of data including data ownership, privacy, interoperability, and fair business models. That is exactly what the Data Initiative is designed to do. Through a unique combination of applied research and data literacy training programs, the Data Initiative is working to strengthen the data ecosystem in Canadian agriculture.
The Canadian Agri-Food Data Initiative contributes to the strength of the ag data ecosystem by working with numerous allied organizations. EMILI is proud to have Dan Lussier, the Director of the Canadian Agri-Food Data Initiative, acting as Vice-President and a member of the board for Ag Data Transparent, as chair of the CSA Group’s Advisory Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food Data and as a contributor to numerous working groups related to data governance for the National Index on Agri-Food Performance.
Canadian farmers have questions about how their data is managed, about data privacy and of course cybersecurity. CSKA Canada was pleased to collaborate with the Canadian Agri-Food Data Initiative to develop knowledge and tools that empower growers to fully participate in the ongoing conversations related to digital agriculture technology.
