Satellite imagery for tracking crop residue
EMILI is working with researchers from University of Toronto’s Aerospace Team – Space Systems Division to conduct a technological demonstration of crop residue mapping from the low-earth orbit using hyperspectral short wave infrared satellite remote sensing. Five fields will be tracked by satellite on Innovation Farms when the satellite launches. This season, University of Manitoba researchers will capture images of these fields using a drone equipped with a hyperspectral system. EMILI will also use an app created by Agriculture and Agri-food Canada to capture images of crop residue and tillage effects to ground truth the satellite and drone imagery.
